A Nenets woman sits on her coat and sews ornate reindeer skin boots, similar to the ones she is wearing. These boots are made with the skin of the reindeer's leg and are sewn with sinew thread. The inner sole is made of a handful of dried grass and is discarded and replaced often, like changing socks. Next to her lies a specially carved wooden stick used to knock snow off clothing as people enter the tent.
